Looks good. I really hope this gets a fast BD release in the future when it comes out. My excitement awaits for Mamoru's latest work!

The animation quality is as I expected: beautiful. Now wait for the BD since it's not gonna be put on local theaters....

The furry fandom intersecting the anime/manga fandom might also give rise to some weird stereotypes they already have.

haha came here to say this as well.
Not a big fan of Hosoda's work. Watched "girl who leapt through time" and "summer wars" because of the high praise they got and both were beautiful to look at but very mediocre stories. Skipped wolf children due to my aversion to the subject material. Still, I'll probably check this one out since the premise is pretty interesting.

I laughed way too hard.
The one thing the grinds me of Hosoda's films is the voice acting. Since he always casts unknowns in all his films they sound really off, especially in the emotional scenes. But that's just me.

Those unknown actors mostly work for live-action stuff than anime. And some of those actors are big names in the industry.

Just by looking at the character design, you could tell who's making it...

I get where you're from - I think Girl Who Leapt Through Time and Summer Wars are both quite good, but not quite up to the level of their hype. Wolf Children, however, really is worthy of the praise it gets and is much better than the other two. It may have one slightly-cringey scene of the type you're thinking of, but I still recommend you check it out.

So, Wolf Children was motherly love and hardship of raising children. I guess this will be Fatherly Love and the hardship of raising a child.
To be truthful, I actually want to see this, you don't get a lot of good father figures in anime, with strong values and endearing passion (be in under the surface, where you have to dig to get to it). Most of which involve a daughter, but few highlight the bond of father and son. I just trust this director to do a competent job of portraying this "odd" pairing and a father/son bond for a change from the regular/more occurring father/daughter bond.

Something you guys need to reconsider in bashing Girl Who Leapt Through time is that the original story is from 1967. A lot of what it did was very unique and ahead of it's time. Even by 2006 standards it was still a fantastic film, but definitely overhyped

It looks so cute! I already like the kid.
But, yeah, furries
There was a good grandfather-son relationship in Summer Wars between Mansuke Jinnouchi and Kazuma Ikezawa (Y'know, the 13-year-old who controlled the fighting rabbit avatar and his fisherman granddad who taught him kung-fu?) But this movie will probably delve deeper into a father-son relationship, which would be nice
