Admittedly, it's a bit shocking. I never thought that Kojima will ever stop making MGS games despite all his claims in the past and now it can happen for real. Still, maybe it's a dirty PR or trolling from his side?

it could be, i think there was a similar incident in the past, but I've read from more than one source in the past that he's been difficult to work with

Well a lot of other gaming news are reporting on this not only Kotaku.

EDIT: I don't see anywhere the article mention Kotaku.

I get the feeling we will lose a lot of timeless series and franchises (and their creators) before this generation is over. We also lost Conker today, it's in the Project Spark deathslot similar to how Spyro ended up in Skylanders and forgotten.

8th gen has shown a lot of disrespect towards many of our childhood icons.

I say why not.

If Kojima is disatisfied with Konami, he's certainly in the right to leave. The Phantom Pain seems like it could be the last entry on the series (it'd cover all the ground we didn't know, unless they intend to release more Rising titles), and it's about time he worked on a new title. Besides, he's THE Hideo Kojima; he probably won't have trouble finding a company to hire him, or even making a studio on his own.

My only fear lies in Silent Hills, and whether or not his (still not certain) leave will affect the project.

It's the other way around; if the rumors are true, Kojima has been effectively booted from Konami, so they're forced to work as "external" contractors until the game is finished.

For such a drastic decision to be made, we can only assume that Konami no longer sees Kojima Productions as a reliable and integral part of their operation (which wouldn't surprise me given how long it takes to develop Metal Gear).

This realization that ZoE3 will 100% never happen now(before it was over 90% since the studio shut down). NOOOOOOOOO!

Kojima's been saying this since Sons of Liberty. I'll believe it when I see it.
