Pacific Rim Theme Park Attraction Opens in Vallejo, California

Amusement park corporation Six Flags Entertainment Corp. announced on Saturday that it is opening an attraction based on Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim film at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, California.
The "Pacific Rim 5D" attraction uses the SimEx-Iwerks Turbo Theater, which has been unused since 2008. It features a combination of stereoscopic 3D footage with motion-based seats and water effects. The Discovery Kingdom amusement park began offering sneak previews of the attraction on Saturday, ahead of its formal debut in the coming weeks.
Chinese company Wanda acquired a majority stake in Legendary Entertainment, the production company behind Pacific Rim, this week. Legendary Entertainment founder Thomas Tull told Variety after the announcement that the possibility of Pacific Rim theme parks throughout Asia is "awesome." He added, "If you look across our franchises there are certainly good candidates for that [theme park treatment]. That is one of the things that is very attractive. You can't force anything, but would be wise to take advantage of all the ways that fans can connect. We are certainly aware of all Wanda's vast holdings. When you look at the job that Universal and Disney have done, we can dream. Wanda has an unbelievable track record of success. Hopefully, we can be a part of that."
