Nao Yazawa Teaches How to Draw Manga in English

Wedding Peach manga artist offers video tutorials, English classes coming soon

Wedding Peach manga artist Nao Yazawa has begun offering manga drawing tutorials as an instructor at the recently-opened Manga School Nakano. Yazawa is a part of the school's Facebook page, which offers a variety of videos showing how to draw body forms and character expressions, as well as inking and coloring techniques.

Manga School Nakano is located in Nakano, Tokyo and offers courses for aspiring artists to develop and hone their talent. Recently, the school has started to work on an outline to offer courses in English, but final plans have yet to be announced. Prices for classes would vary based on the number of students, ranging from 5,000 yen (about US$62) per person for a 2 to 3 hour class of 5 or more to 15,000 yen (about US$187) for a solo class. The tentative schedule includes about 15 courses, covering industry procedures, how to draw characters and mascots, and ending with students finishing their own 4-panel manga and 4-8 page story.

Manga School Nakano is located in the Nakano Manga Art Court. The building also houses doujinshi publisher Taiyou Shuppan. Students attending while in Japan will be given the opportunity to make copies of their finished original work at their on-demand printer.

Yazawa is hosting a manga class trial on May 20. Those interested can RSVP via the Facebook event page.

Digital Manga Publishing released Yazawa's Moon and Blood in May 2011, which shipped in North America prior to any Japanese release.
