Utada Holds Karaoke Contest, BoA Promotes CD

The Japanese pop singer Hikaru Utada is holding a MySpace karaoke contest in which the winner and three friends get to sing with Utada herself. Utada will personally judge the contest, which promotes This is the One , her English-language album which ships on CD in the United States on May 12. The entrants have to sing her "Come Back to Me" song and submit the recording on MySpace.
The Reuters news service reported last Friday that another Asian pop singer, BoA, sold 8,000 copies of her self-titled album to debut at #127 on the Billboard 200. The "Eat You Up" single ranked #8 on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Play chart with 28,000 downloads.
