This year's 10th issue of Kodansha's Evening magazine announced on April 28 that Michiharu Kusunoki (Wangan Midnight, Aitsu to Lullaby) and Mizu Sahara (My Girl, The Voices of a Distant Star) are collaborating to launch a new manga, titled Kami-sama Joker (God Joker). The series will start in Evening's next issue, which Kodansha will publish on May 12. Kami-sama Joker will have a color opening page, and it will also adorn the issue's cover.
Kusunoki began his Wangan Midnight manga series in Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine in 1993. It spawned a 26-episode TV anime series in 2007, a live-action film adaptation in 2009, and a manga sequel, Wangan Midnight C1 Runner. Kusonoki's other works include Eight, Aitsu to Lullaby (which inspired an anime film and live-action movie), and Shakotan Boogie (which inspired a 4-episode original video anime).
Mizu Sahara launched her My Girl manga series in Shinchosha's Monthly Comic @Bunch magazine in 2007. It inspired a live-action television drama. She also drew the manga adaptations of the Makoto Shinkai films The Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days. Tokyopop published the Voices of a Distant Star manga in North America.
The 10th issue of Evening magazine also began publishing Yūji Uchiyama's Gekkō manga, and Rasenjin Hayami's limited run manga series Racoon Dog Fleet.
