This year's ninth issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed on Monday that Mikako Komatsu (Land of the Lustrous' Cinnabar, Pop Team Epic's Popuko) is joining the cast of the second anime season based on Shūichi Asō's The Disastrous Life of Saiki K. (Saiki Kusuo no Psi Nan) manga. Komatsu will play "Koriki #2," a hamster who speaks in a Kansai dialect.
The anime premiered on January 16. The series is listed with 24 episodes.
Hiroaki Sakurai (Di Gi Charat, Maid Sama!) is returning to direct the anime at EGG FIRM and J.C. Staff. Masayuki Onji (Kimi to Boku., Aoi Hana) is also returning as the character designer. Hiroshi Kamiya, Daisuke Ono, and Nobunaga Shimazaki are performing the opening theme song "Silent Prisoner" as their characters alongside the Psychic Lover music group that also composes the music for the series. Dempagumi.inc are returning to perform the ending theme song "Sai Hakkenden" for the anime.
The manga centers on a high school boy named Kusuo Saiki. He possesses supernatural powers that cause unfortunate events in his everyday life.
The first season premiered in July 2016. Funimation streamed the series with English subtitles as it aired in Japan, and also streamed an English broadcast dub for the series.
The manga also inspired a live-action film that opened in Japan last October. The film earned 194 million yen (about US$1.7 million) to rank at #2 during its opening weekend.
