Final Fantasy XV's Tabata Develops Sports RPG for Tokyo Paralympic Games

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on Friday that Final Fantasy XV game director Hajime Tabata and his new studio JP Games are developing The Pegasus Dream Tour game in the lead-up to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. The game will be IPC's first official video game, and the goal of the project is to promote the popularity of Paralympic sports and engage the youth market. The game is slated to launch on various platforms including smartphones worldwide in 2020.

In the sports role-playing game, players will participate in a virtual Paralympic Games set in the fantasy metropolis Pegasus City. Players will awaken special abilities known as Xtra Powers. Tabata described the game:

This is not just an ordinary video game about sports. JP Games is going to represent fully the wonders that are unique to Paralympic sports in this brand-new role-playing game – a genre we excel in.

With this video game, we want to contribute to the future growth of the Paralympic Games, not just as a sporting event, but as entertainment as well, with contents that we hope will have lasting value in the future.

Tabata established JP Games in February. Square Enix announced in November that Tabata resigned from both Square Enix and Luminous Productions on October 31. Tabata wrote in a letter at that time that he is working on a new project and has started his own business to work on it.
