More Ghibliotheque Events Announced

The podcast's hosts will introduce monthly screenings of anime films at London's Prince Charles Cinema, starting with ON-GAKU: Our Sound in February and Promare in March

The co-hosts of the British Ghibliotheque podcast, Michael Leader and Jake Cunningham, have announced they will be introducing monthly screenings of anime films at London's Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square. The first two screenings will be of Kenji Iwaisawa's ON-GAKU: Our Sound (pictured) on February 8 at 8.30 p.m., and of Hiroyuki Imaishi's Promare on March 8 at 8.30 p.m. Tickets are available at the above link.

According to Ghibliotheque's Twitter, "Our goal with this strand is to complement the Prince Charles cinema's already excellent anime programming with a mix of deeper cuts, recent gems and films that deserve to be seen on the big screen, exploring the length and breadth of Japanese animation."

Other upcoming Ghibliotheque events include:

Wednesday January 18 - Leader and Cunningham will introduce a London screening of Makoto Shinkai's your name. at the Stratford Picture House cinema at 7 pm (tickets). The event had been previously scheduled for November 2, but was postponed due to technical problems.

Thursday January 26 - Leader and Cunningham will introduce a Kendal screening of Katsuhiro Ōtomo's Akira at the Brewery Arts Centre at 7.30 pm (tickets).

Friday January 27 - Leader and Cunningham will present their live talk, "The Z-to-A of Studio Ghibli," at TAPE Community and Film at Colwyn Bay, as part of the Coastline Film Festival. The talk will begin at 6 p.m. and will be followed by a screening of Mamoru Hosoda's BELLE. Tickets are described as "Free / pay what you can" and can be booked here.

Sunday January 29 - Leader and Cunningham will introduce a Chester screening of Satoshi Kon's Millennium Actress at the Storyhouse cinema at 3 pm (tickets).
